This print has been on my ‘making wish list’ for quite a while, but I couldn’t figure out how to make the stencil and how to align the print. One day after dropping the girls at school and biking to Bobbinhood’s HQ it came to me (all my revelations happen on that bike ride ;)) I had to cut out half of the squares and repeat the print. Let me explain in 12 steps:
I used our MEGA kit and stencils for this print, but you can def make it with our MAXI kit. First draw the grid. For this blogpost I used a 2×2 cm grid. Then only cut out the pink squares.
Make sure your fabric is washed and ironed. Place your fabric on your table.
Don’t forget to have a bounce layer underneath the fabric you want to print (see page 43 of our book).
When you tape the stencil, as indicated, to the back of the screen: measure 4cm from the cut-out to the side, do the same for the bottom. Be precise. Tape the stencil to the screen.
Place the screen in the left bottom corner and print.
Blow dry ultra quick.
Align bottom of the screen to tape. Align left of screen to the left of the last row of blocks you just printed. Blow dry real quick and repeat to the end of the fabric.
Align left of screen to tape and bottom of the screen to the bottom of the top row of the blocks.
Print. Blow dry.
Align bottom of the screen to the bottom of the top row of the blocks. Align the left of screen to the left of the last row of blocks you just printed.
Blow dry real quick. Repeat till end.
When you printed everything, you are going in for the second layer! This will finish of the print and make it into a checkerboard print. The second print should fit right in-between the first prints!
Align bottom of screen to the top of the squares on the bottom row.
Align left of screen to the right of the squares on the left row.
Print. Blow dry.
Align left of screen to the left of the last row of blocks you just printed. Align bottom of the screen to the top of the bottom row.
Blow dry real quick. Repeat till end.
Align the screen to the right of the first row and to the bottom of the top row, printed last.
Print and blow dry quick.
Continue like you have done before, make sure to fill in all the blanks 🙂
